An alumnus of Pepperdine University School of Law, John Balent has practiced family law in Brea, California, since 1976. In addition to his professional activities, John Balent has remained involved in the community as an active member of Placentia Presbyterian Church.
Placentia Presbyterian Church’s history of supporting the local community stretches back for more than a century. Over the years, it has developed various outreach programs to serve those most in need.
One of these programs is the Homeless Intervention Shelter (H.I.S. House), which supports individuals and families on the path to permanent housing. Initially a large farmhouse, H.I.S. Home was purchased by the church in 1989, and has since provided a place of hope and support for over 2,000 residents. In addition to receiving access to a safe haven to reorganize their lives for up to four months, residents of H.I.S. House are offered a variety of counseling services for budgeting, parenting, and career development.
To further support residents on their path to self-sufficiency, the Second Step house in Bradford allows provides housing at minimal cost for six months. H.I.S. House continues to be fully supported by members of Placentia Presbyterian Church and by local businesses and agencies.
